Track a continuous flat sheet gathering into irregular folds and remaining compact after the hands release.

Crumple one foil sheet and retain the compact shape

Original, untested video brief. No input image or generated result is supplied.

1. Task and boundary

Gather one flat foil sheet into a loose compact ball and release it on the table. The perimeter moves inward, irregular folds accumulate and the sheet remains crumpled after pressure ends. Track visible edges and landmarks through the gathering so the foil does not simply dissolve into a newly generated metallic sphere.

This original brief is untested. Use a small plain foil sheet without sharp torn edges or attached packaging. Exclude shredding, melting and a perfectly spherical result. Retained shape means remaining crumpled during the visible ending, not a measured promise that no later recovery can occur.

2. Authorized first frame

Use a photograph or accurate drawing you own or are allowed to use. A single flat rectangular foil sheet rests on a plain table, with each original hand near an opposite edge. Show all four corners, a slight existing surface irregularity and the surrounding tabletop.

Choose an oblique overhead view with soft broad lighting so folds remain readable without white glare covering the entire sheet. Leave space above its center for the gathering hands. Use the original perimeter and irregularity as identity references; changing highlights alone cannot serve as persistent material landmarks.

4. Prompt and timing

Start from my authorized image of one flat foil sheet on a table with the original two hands at opposite edges. Keep the camera, lighting and tabletop fixed. Bring the sheet’s outer edges inward with those hands, lifting and gathering the same connected material toward its center. Let irregular folds form progressively where neighboring areas meet and bend. Close the hands around the gathered sheet once to make a loose compact ball, preserving a few identifiable original edge portions on its surface. Do not replace the sheet with a smooth metal sphere or remove material into fragments. Ease the hands open and lower the crumpled foil onto the table, then withdraw both hands. Leave the original sheet compact and wrinkled after contact pressure ends. No melting, tearing, spring back to a flat rectangle, extra foil, cut or second squeeze.
  1. Opening fifth: locate the original perimeter, four corners and single flat sheet.
  2. Middle three fifths: follow inward gathering, development of irregular folds and one brief enclosing press.
  3. Final fifth: inspect placement and release, then compare the unsupported compact outline with the flat start.

5. Inspect the output

For each check, record a frame or time, observation and pass, fail or inconclusive judgment.

  • Original outer edges move inward instead of disappearing before gathering.
  • Folds arise progressively in the same connected sheet.
  • The material remains one crumpled body without detached flakes or a new smooth sphere.
  • At least some original edge portions remain traceable on the compact surface.
  • The foil stays compact after both hands clear it and it rests on the table.
  • If the hands hide all material during a sudden shape replacement, mark continuity inconclusive; a plausible crumpled ending cannot establish how it formed.

6. Fix one failure

  • The foil becomes a polished ball: retain irregular folds, unequal facets and visible edge portions.
  • The sheet shrinks without folding: make inward perimeter travel and successive bends explicit.
  • The foil springs flat: add a short hands-clear hold of the retained crumpled state.
  • Glare hides every fold: simplify the authorized lighting and judge edges rather than bright reflection patches.

7. Ending and limits

Finish with one irregular crumpled foil ball on the same table, both original hands clear and no detached material nearby.

Save your result, authorized input, exact prompt, settings and inspection notes.

No generated result, material conservation measurement or irreversible-deformation test is supplied. The retained outline is assessed only over the visible final interval.

The sponge task asks a body to recover after compression. This task gathers a sheet into many irregular folds and retains them after release; creating one straight paper crease is a different boundary change.
